The service is performed by SPIB staff who have developed and demonstrated their expertise in good sawmilling practices. The survey service can include a step by step evaluation of the manufacturing process such as incoming log quality, bucking, log breakdown, edging, trimming, and lumber size control. SPIB staff will develop a customized survey based on the needs expressed by mill management or a standard survey accessible on-line. A sawmill survey may also be performed in conjunction with a Dry Kiln Survey. Dressed lumber is inspected to evaluate loss from the sawmill manufacturer. The findings of the survey are discussed with mill management. A report is then issued giving all the data and a summary of the survey.
